Job Hunting in Hefei in 2026: Where to Stay, How to Get Around, What It Costs

When you job hunt in a city you have never lived in, the first problem is never your resume. It is where you sleep tonight. Hefei has been adding jobs fast, and more young people show up every season to interview, but the rules of conventional renting — six-month minimum, one month's deposit plus three up front, agency fee on top — are brutal for someone who does not have an offer yet. You hand over four or five thousand RMB and get back a lease you may have to break in three months.

This guide splits the problem into three parts: where to stay, how to get around, and what it costs. All of it is specific enough to act on.

Step one: solve housing, and pick something you can back out of

The thing you actually need while interviewing is not cheap. It is the ability to change your mind. You do not know how many rounds you will do, when an offer lands, or which district the company will turn out to be in. Any arrangement that demands a lump-sum deposit and a long contract is a bet placed before you have the information.

Which district? Pick your location by where your interviews are

Interviewing mostly in the High-Tech Zone or Zhengwu District — take Gaoxin West Bus Station. It is 300 meters outside Exit C of West Bus Station on Line 2. Two or three stops east puts you in the Zhengwu District; stay on and you reach Sanxiaokou and Dadongmen downtown. Interviewing around Sanlian or the university belt — take West Qilitang. Two lines, 2 and 3, next to the Sanlian commercial hub and Heart City. This one has the best day-to-day amenities around it, which matters if you are staying a while. From 19 RMB a night.

Interviewing in Baohe or around HFUT, or making frequent rail trips — take HFUT South Campus. Line 1 runs five stops straight to both Hefei Railway Station and Hefei South Station, about 20 minutes. During campus recruiting season, being next to HFUT for info sessions is worth a lot. Ten-bed rooms from 19 RMB a night, 120 RMB a week, 400 RMB a month.

In and out the same day, or catching an early train — take Hefei Railway Station. Five minutes on foot to the station entrance, with Line 1 and Line 3 both there, so a late arrival does not mean hunting for a taxi. From 19 RMB a night.

Transit: your commute radius decides how many interviews fit in a day

Hefei's rail network is joined up now. Line 1 runs north–south and hits both Hefei Station and Hefei South Station. Line 2 crosses east–west, from the High-Tech Zone all the way downtown. Line 3 cuts diagonally southwest to northeast. Line 5 meets Line 2 downtown. All five Jushe locations are inside walking distance of a station, which is the whole point: you walk out and you are on a train.

One practical scheduling trick: put companies on the same metro line on the same day. Metro travel time is predictable. Taxi travel time is not — on Hefei's main roads at rush hour, a 20-minute drive routinely takes 50. Budget: what a month of job hunting actually costs

Start with housing. Across Jushe's room types, 10-bed rooms run 19–21 RMB a night, 8-bed rooms 23–24, and 4-bed rooms 29–30. Thirty nights in a 10-bed room comes to roughly 570–630 RMB. The HFUT South location has a room type at 400 RMB a month, which is cheaper again for a longer stay. Utilities are included and there are no hidden charges.

Now compare renting. Take a 1,200 RMB single room in Hefei as an illustration — actual rents vary a lot by district. One month's deposit plus three months up front is 4,800 RMB, and with the agency fee, most people need more than 5,000 RMB to start. If the offer that arrives a month later is on the other side of town, breaking the lease costs you again.

None of which means long leases are bad. It is a question of timing: before the offer is signed, flexibility is worth more than a low unit price. Beyond housing there are a few costs people forget to count: getting around town (mostly metro, one or two hundred RMB a month), interview clothes and printed resumes, and food during the waiting weeks. Add it all up and about 2,000 RMB a month usually covers a basic life here, which is less pressure than most people brace for.

The search itself: work both online and offline

Use the big recruiting platforms as your base, but also watch Hefei's local talent site and the postings that district labor bureaus publish. The High-Tech Zone and the Economic Development Zone run dedicated job fairs regularly, and during campus recruiting season the density of info sessions around HFUT and USTC is high.
