After 20 Free Nights at the Talent Station, Then What?
In July 2025, People's Daily Online's Anhui channel reported something happening in Hefei's High-Tech Zone: a recent graduate who had come to the district looking for work submitted an application online and moved into the Gaoxin Yunguo Youth Talent Station free of charge, along with a 50 RMB transit subsidy. A week later he landed a job, and his free stay was extended from 20 days to 25.
"No job yet — where do I sleep?" is the first question anyone faces stepping off a high-speed train in a new city. Hefei's High-Tech Zone answered it with an actual room, and that deserves genuine credit.
But put a few numbers from that report side by side and you can also see the other face of that bed: it is limited, it is timed, and you have to compete for it. The station covers your first 20 days on the ground. Job hunting — from the first application to money in your account — usually takes considerably longer.
Who covers the rest? The answer is in the same district: Jushe Hostel (Hefei Gaoxin West Bus Station), 300 meters outside Exit C of West Bus Station on Line 2 — no eligibility test, no deposit, no cap on nights, from 19 RMB a night.
One. The High-Tech Zone's room program deserves a careful read
Let us give the good news in full first. According to that July 2025 report, the Gaoxin Yunguo Youth Talent Station opened its first 200 units on June 1, and in under two months had taken more than 700 applications and hosted close to 300 guest stays. The report also noted that capacity would rise to 800 units by the end of August, with annual capacity reaching 20,000 guest stays.
The setup is not thin, either: private bathrooms and Wi-Fi in every room, plus a study room, a reading room, a gym, a shared kitchen, and even a talent park. Applications run entirely online through the Smart Gaoxin mini program, alongside employment counseling, policy consultation, and free transit vouchers.
Looking further out, the district's long-term housing system is equally solid: 1,400 public rental units in the Innovation Talent Community (in 38, 48, and 60 m² layouts), 1,312 units in the Youth Talent Community, and 2,600 in the Wanshui Talent Community. Add the Gaoxin Talent Card with free parking, priority medical appointments, and free entry to attractions, plus the district's seven-point talent policy and Hefei's first Talent Day, and this is a coordinated program that runs from landing to putting down roots, not a one-off gesture.
So this article is not measuring ourselves against the talent station. If you qualify, apply. We only want to make one other thing clear: if you do not get in, do not get there in time, or reach the end of your stay, there is another respectable place to land.
Two. But three things are outside your control
Everything below uses only the public figures from that report. No outside sources.
First, the allocation. Put two numbers next to each other: 200 units in the first phase, and more than 700 applications in two months — roughly 3.5 times as many applicants as first-phase rooms. The "close to 300 guest stays" over the same period is counted in stays rather than people, so it cannot be converted directly into an acceptance rate. But 3.5x already tells you enough: this is a bed you have to compete for. It is also exactly why the district went from 200 units to 800.
Second, the turnover. Divide two more figures from the report: 800 units and annual capacity of 20,000 guest stays works out to 25 stays per unit per year, or about 14.6 days per stay on average. That is an average inferred from the reported figures and does not represent anyone's actual length of stay, but it does establish one thing — the station's operating model is designed around stays of under a month. It is a buffer, not housing.
Third, eligibility. It is called a talent station, and it sits inside a system of talent cards, a seven-point talent policy, and a Talent Day — all of it designed around formal talent recognition. For the current application criteria, required documents, and review times, go by the latest notice in the Smart Gaoxin mini program. The point is not whether the bar is high or low. It is that whether you can apply, and for how long, is not your call. And if you get an interview notice tonight for tomorrow morning and want to travel overnight, an online application plus a review cycle is very unlikely to move fast enough.
Three. After the 25-day cap, the job search is not over
The station's limit is explicit: 20 days free, extended to 25 once you have a job, and 25 is the ceiling.
Now consider how long a job search actually takes. Apply, written test, first interview, final interview, wait for a decision — two or three weeks with a single company is normal, and nobody interviews at only one company. After the offer comes the background check, the medical, resigning from your last job, and onboarding, and then you wait another month for the first paycheck. The stretch from stepping off the train to having money in hand often runs well past 25 days.
On top of that, the last few of those 25 days are probably spent onboarding, not apartment hunting. So the real question was never "is there somewhere free to stay." It is where you sleep on the day the free allowance runs out — ideally somewhere not far from the High-Tech Zone.
Four. Jushe Hostel Gaoxin West Bus Station: the bed next door
Jushe's fifth Hefei location sits at the north gate of the High-Tech Zone, in the established Xinhuacheng commercial district, sharing a building with the Hilton — on the same map as the district's industrial belt and office towers. It was handed over in 2026, so the finishes, furniture, mattresses, and bedding are all new, without the indefinable smell of a renovated older property.
It is 300 meters from Exit C of West Bus Station on Line 2, about a five-minute walk, with Exit A of Guizhuang Station 950 meters away, so two stations serve it. Line 2 runs the length of the city east to west: ride two or three stops east from the door and you are in the Zhengwu District, stay on and you reach Sanxiaokou and Dadongmen downtown. Work in the High-Tech Zone, interview in Zhengwu — one train covers both. Longer trips are quick too: Shushandong Station is about 21 minutes by car, Hefei South Station about 26, and Xinqiao International Airport about 24 minutes on expressway the whole way.
ist Mall is downstairs and Longfor Paradise Walk is a 14-minute walk. Meals, groceries, a haircut, a SIM card are all a few steps away, and if you want air, Dashushan National Forest Park is a 2.4 km walk. The three things people dread most during a job search — being stuck out of the way, overpaying for food, and running all over town for errands — get dismantled in one move here.
Five. No eligibility test, no cap on nights: a relay, not a rivalry
Jushe and the talent station are not competitors. We are the next leg of the relay. The station gives you a policy benefit; Jushe gives you certainty.
No eligibility check. No questions about your degree, your graduation year, or your household registration, and no waiting for a review. Bring your ID and you can stay. Registration is filed with public security, men and women are in separate zones, and there are no mixed rooms.
No waiting. Check-in is entirely self-service and runs 24 hours, with someone on hand if you get off a late train. Get an interview notice tonight for tomorrow morning and you can sleep in the High-Tech Zone tonight.
No cap on nights. One night minimum, no maximum, no deposit, check out whenever, utilities included. Three days works. Three months works. You do not have to start worrying in advance about what happens on day 26.
And a free study room. Individual desks and office chairs, so editing a resume, applying online, sitting a class, or taking a video interview all happen somewhere quiet, without hunting for a coffee shop seat and buying an americano you did not want. Luggage storage is free too — arrive on an early train, interview in the afternoon, drop the case and go out light.
Six. Rooms and rates: from 19 RMB a night, stay as long as you like
The location has four dorm types: a men's 12-bed (from 19 RMB a night), a mixed 10-bed (from 21), a men's 8-bed (from 23), and a mixed 4-bed (from 29), ranging from 20 to 40 m². If budget comes first, take the 12- or 10-bed; if you want quiet and privacy, go to the 4-bed.
Every bed has a locking storage cabinet, a privacy curtain, a reading light, a 220V outlet, and a USB port. Shower areas are split by gender with private stalls and 24-hour hot water. There are gender-specific QR-code washers and dryers, 24-hour hot and cold filtered drinking water, individual air conditioning, hair dryers, a drying area, and EV charging spaces. Disposable toiletry kits, shampoo and body wash, and slippers are free, and bedding is changed for every guest.
The longer you stay, the lower the nightly average. Long-stay discounts are a standing part of our pricing, and booking the whole stretch at once beats splitting it into several short bookings. The official WeChat Mini Program is our direct channel with no platform commission, saving 2–5 RMB per order versus third-party platforms, and the long-stay discount only applies there. Live pricing is in the Mini Program. Room types and rates for our other locations are on the locations page.
Seven. The practical combination: the station takes the first half, we take the second
If you are about to come to the Hefei High-Tech Zone to look for work, here is a plan that actually holds up.
Step one: apply to the talent station. If you qualify, apply through the Smart Gaoxin mini program. Twenty free days is twenty free days, and take the transit subsidy and the employment counseling while you are at it.
Step two: line up the fallback at the same time. Look at room types and prices in the Jushe Mini Program in advance. If the application does not come through, the review does not finish in time, or your number comes up in the next batch, you have somewhere to sleep that night — no rebooking a train, no refunds, no sitting in a 24-hour fast-food place with your suitcase.
Step three: move over when the station stay ends. Still interviewing, book by the night; offer signed, book a longer stay. Checking out of one and into the other is one ride on Line 2, so your commute radius does not change and you do not have to restart the rhythm of your search.
Step four: talk about a lease once the first paycheck lands. A deposit plus three months up front and an agency fee generally means more than 5,000 RMB to start. Until the job is genuinely settled, flexibility is worth more than unit price.
Everyone knows job hunting is a hard stretch. Policy gave you a free buffer, and what Jushe wants to do is make the stretch after that buffer just as affordable, secure, and decent.
